Why Is Alternative Medicine A Rewarding Career Option

With the ever-increasing cost and undesirable side effects of the conventional Western method of medicine, we have witnessed a constantly increasing interest in alternative medicine system. While there is an alternative medicine school in almost every part of the world now, aspiring alternative medicine practitioners are still doubtful about this as a prospective career option. However, contrary to the standard notion, alternative medicine actually has much scope now as an effective career. The speed at which each new alternative medicine school is opening now is itself an indication of the future scope of this career.

The career you take up will depend on the level of education you obtained from your alternative medicine school. If you are business minded, you may get into selling herbal remedies, dietary supplements, and various other holistic products. If you belong to an agricultural background, you may get involved in cultivation of herbs. You will definitely have a never failing career as a massage therapist, as so many spas and gyms that are sprouting everywhere need the same. Even standard acupuncture clinics and Ayurveda centers are more interested in people who are licensed practitioners from some alternative medicine school rather than those with knowledge only and no degree.

If you take up alternative medicine as a career option, not only will your career be very financially rewarding, but your cost of education from an alternative medicine school will be very minimal as well. An alternative medicine schools gives you the provision of distance learning, whereby you can obtain your degree online, studying and researching in your own surroundings. This is particularly beneficial for students who want to study from a different country. You will not have to attend regular classes at an alternative medicine school, you can obtain your degree online wherever you are, and your graduation will be very speedy as well.

One country where alternative medicine has become a very flourishing and promising career option is India. India is the land where many traditional alternative medicine therapies like Ayurveda, Unani, and Yoga originated. Even today, most rural areas in India have alternative medicine in the form of traditional knowledge as the only form of treatment in their areas. In a developing country like India, where so many alternative medicine therapies have been practiced for years, this career is of enormous scope for it is not only very cost effective but also has no harmful side effects.

There are abundant alternative medicine schools in India offering degrees and diplomas in many alternative medicine courses. Students qualified from alternative medicine schools in India are getting employment in treatment centers, hospitals, training centers, resorts, spas and so on. And with the introduction of distance learning, many foreign students who acquire degrees online from the alternative medicine schools in India, are also being able to get various job opportunities in their respective countries.

The Power of Natural Alternative Medicine – Part 1

The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human body, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”…Thomas Edison, 1902

We have many different options for healthcare today, but the focus of this article will be on biologically based treatments and prevention. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) defines the scope of biologically based practices to include, but is not limited to, botanicals, animal-derived extracts, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, prebiotics and probiotics, whole diets, and functional foods.

But first, lets take a look at the different philosophies of healthcare practiced today. Allopathic, alternative, complementary, integrativewhat does it all mean? Each includes many different kinds of therapies, and although alternative, complementary and integrative are sometimes used interchangeably, the general focus of each is different.

Allopathic medicine focuses on disease and the treatment of the physical body with drugs and surgery. These are conventional physicians with the title of M.D. that are universally recognized as having a medical degree.

Alternative medicine includes those therapies not generally recommended by allopathic physicians. It includes Energy Medicine, Ethnomedicine, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Homeopathic Medicine, Botanical or Herbal Medicine, Biomolecular Medicine, Manual Medicine, Spiritual Medicine.

Complementary medicine includes therapies used by both alternative and allopathic physicians. It includes Exercise Medicine, Environmental Medicine, Social Medicine, and Nutritional Medicine.

Integrative medicine is the attempt to integrate the many philosophies of medicine, allopathic, complementary, and alternative, to treat the whole person, physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual.1

Many people are hesitant about trusting their healthcare to anyone other than an allopathic physician. But did you know that Naturopathic Medical Doctors are the only physicians who receive complete training in conventional medicine as well as natural medicine? Licensed naturopathic medical doctors (N.M.D. /N.D.) attend a four-year graduate level naturopathic medical school where they are educated in all of the same basic sciences as a conventional M.D. In addition to this training, they are extensively educated in the philosophy and implementation of safe and effective natural therapeutics with a strong emphasis on disease prevention. Unfortunately, some states do not yet offer licensing for Naturopathic Doctors.

Allopathic physicians and pharmaceutical drugs are, and always will be, necessary for acute, emergency medical care and trauma, as well as for conditions that cannot be controlled with lifestyle changes, good nutrition and supplements. But many conditions can be prevented and controlled with lifestyle changes and biologically based medicine. Just as many pharmaceutical drugs can interact with other drugs, some biologically based supplements may interact with drugs and cause side effects, so a healthcare provider should always be consulted before adding supplements to the diet. In some cases, alternative therapy may actually have beneficial synergistic effects in conjunction with existing medical therapy, even when not feasible as a replacement.

Biologically based medicine is not new. It was practiced for thousands of years before pharmaceutical companies began manufacturing the first synthetic drugs. In addition, many of the pharmaceutical preparations used around the world are based on plants. As late as the 1930’s, the formulation of about 80% of synthetic pharmaceutical drugs began with a natural compound. Today, about 25% of prescription drugs contain active ingredients derived from plants.

The United States has the most advanced medical system in the world, yet the population is increasingly turning to natural healing methods. However, the U.S. still lags behind world stats. A survey of 31,000 U.S. adults conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics in 2004 showed that 35 percent use some form of complementary and alternative medicine. Today, the World Health Organization estimates that herbal medicine is still the primary source of health care for approximately 80 percent of the worlds population.

Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. These diseases and other chronic diseases such as obesity, depression, metabolic and digestive disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and fibroids, account for 7 of every 10 deaths and affect the quality of life of 90 million Americans. Chronic diseases are among the most prevalent and most costly, yet they are the most preventable.

Conventional physicians treat chronic diseases with expensive pharmaceuticals that may temporarily relieve the painful or uncomfortable symptoms, but the drugs do nothing to resolve the underlying cause, and may actually cause other side effects and serious problems. Because nutrition affects our immune system, organ function, hormonal balance and cellular metabolism, many of these chronic conditions and diseases can be traced to a nutrition deficiency. When the deficiency is not corrected, symptoms begin to appear and eventually lead to disease and premature aging.

Many pharmaceuticals can effectively be replaced with multivitamin supplements, botanicals, amino acids, prebiotics and probiotics, fresh foods and functional foods for both prevention and treatment. Because herbs work synergistically, combinations of herbs with similar properties enhance the properties of each. This is why choosing a product containing a combination of different herbs is usually more effective than choosing individual selections. An example of this is the combination of valerian, passion flower and hops to promote relaxation and restful sleep. All three have a relaxing effect on the body. Valerian relaxes muscle tension, while hops relaxes the nervous system, and passiflora acts as a sedative. Popular alternative medicine company Melaleuca even offers a product called RestEZ, a supplement that contains all three natural sleep enhancers: valerian, passion flower and hops.

In part two of The Power of Natural Alternative Medicine we will discuss the regulation of nutritional supplements and little known history of natural medicine. This publication is courtesy of RMBarry Publications who publish various books about Melaleuca Products.

Plant Medicine Produces Spectacular Results To Eliminate Molluscum

Molluscum contagiosum (MC) usually clears up on its own without the need for treatment. It rarely causes any other problem. However, complications can sometimes occur, particularly in people with a weakened immune system. Reasons why someone may have a weakened immune system include: receiving chemotherapy for cancer, being HIV positive, and taking medicines that suppress immune system, such as azathioprine or steroids.
People who have had organ transplants are usually required to take immunosuppressants to prevent their body rejecting the donated organs. Immunosuppressants are also used treat severe autoimmune conditions, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the healthy tissue. The digestive condition Crohns disease is an example of an autoimmune condition.
The two most common complications that can occur in people with a weakened immune system are: having larger lesions than normal, having many more lesions than normal, and having a larger area of the body covered by the lesions, such as the chest, face and both arms. Due to the increased risk of developing a more severe form of molluscum contagiosum, people with a weakened immune system are usually referred to a dermatologist.
Squeezing the lesions is the first and the simplest type of treatment for molluscum contagiosum. The aim of squeezing the lesions is to remove the pearly grey core at their centre. Do not try to squeeze the lesions before consulting your general practitioner. If they advise you to squeeze the lesions, wash and dry your hands thoroughly both before and afterwards. After drying your hands on a towel, wash the towel immediately on the hot cycle of your washing machine.
If you do not follow these important hygienic precautions, lesions may become infected by bacteria that are already present on your skin. Your general practitioner can advise you about whether your child should have their spots squeezed or whether it is better to let the infection clear by itself. Your general practitioner can squeeze your or your child’s lesions, or they can train you to safely squeeze the lesions yourself.
Your general practitioner may use a small pair of forceps or tweezers to squeeze the lesions, but you may find it easier to use your fingers. If you want to remove the cores of the lesions yourself, do it after you or your child has had a bath, as the skin will be softer. Wear disposable gloves, wash your hands before and afterwards, and carefully dispose of the contents of the lesions.
An alternative to using tweezers is to use a wooden toothpick to tease out the core of the lesion. Afterwards, put the toothpick in the dustbin. Removing the cores of the lesions can be painful, so it may be best to treat a small number at a time. Once the lesions have been treated and their contents removed, they are likely to heal within one to four weeks.
Cryotherapy involves freezing the lesions with liquid nitrogen to remove them. Each lesion is frozen for five to ten seconds so that a layer of ice forms over the spot and surrounding skin. You may need several sessions of cryotherapy before each spot clears completely. You will need to wait two to three weeks between each treatment session.
Diathermy uses heat to remove the lesions. After you have been given a local anaesthetic to numb the area being treated, your general practitioner or nurse will use a heated electrical device to burn off the lesions. Curettage removes lesions by scraping them off with a thin metal instrument called a curette. As with diathermy, you may have a local anaesthetic to numb your skin.
Plant medicine for molluscum has significant effect without side effect. It is particularly invaluable not only in consideration of its ability to inactivate the extra cellular molluscum virus at very low concentrations, but also for its tolerability to healthy surrounding tissue, which makes this product so important in today’s pharmacopia.
The lipophilic tendency of this treatment allows it to penetrate into cell membranes to dissolve the lipo protein hull of the molluscum virus, thus destroying it. Plant medicine has produced spectacular results to eliminate molluscum, regardless of location on the body. Application literally dissolves molluscum day after day, without damaging healthy tissue, total clearance is often experienced. To learn more, please go to http://www.naturespharma.org.

Resveratrol The Best (Easy) Medicine For Anti-Aging

You’ve Heard Red Wine’s Good For You? Here’s Why

by Michael D. Hume, M.S.

Years ago, researchers from Harvard Medical School (and others) found an impressive nutrient with the power to fight aging, improve cardio-vascular and neurologic health, and help the human body battle everything from fatigue to disease. It’s called “resveratrol,” and it’s the ingredient in red wine that you’ve heard so much talk about lately.

How does it work?

Well, Father Time is wreaking havoc on your body, all the time. As you grow older (especially if you can manage to do it in our modern fast-food-and-TV societies), your body is bombarded by toxins of all sorts, from airborne and food-borne toxins to the stuff your flourescent lights are putting out that’s slowly killing your brain. The bad stuff attacks your cells, and literally starts tearing them apart. You’ve heard the term “free radical,” right? Those are particles torn from your cells that are floating around inside you, looking to attach themselves to healthy cells (and thereby making those cells UN-healthy in short order). Even if you lived a brilliantly clean life (and you don’t), this would happen anyway… your cells just break down over time. The technical term for this is “oxidation,” and you know it as “gettin’ old.”

To fight the oxidation of their cells – from both natural aging and the more unnatural aspects of life in 2011 – people buy and consume mass quantities of “anti-oxidants.” Not enough people do this, of course, and you can almost see it in the color of their hair and the wrinkles in their skin. Anti-oxidants are VERY important, and should be one of the centerpieces of your daily supplement regimen. They work to help your body repair those damaged cells, safely eliminate those free radicals, and resist further damage. Think of anti-oxidants as the Health Patrol in your body, running around fixing and protecting you at the cellular level… and foiling the attacks of Father Time.

And one of the best anti-oxidants (if not THE best) is resveratrol.

That’s why many researchers are saying that, not only will a glass or two of red wine every day not kill you, it would be good for you. You actually get a tiny benefit from the alcohol (as long as you don’t overdo it), because it helps clean your blood and reduce your bad cholesterol. But the big bennies come from the resveratrol, the commanding general of that Health Patrol we talked about. Resveratrol, in the right concentration, literally turns on human genes that order your cells to fix themselves.

The trouble is, you’d have to drink hundreds of glasses of wine every day to get resveratrol in the “right concentration” to activate those genes. Here’s a hint: don’t do that. One day like that, and you’re off the planet… not to mention that, while drunkenness of any kind is horrible for you, red wine produces a particularly mean and unpleasant kind of hangover that you just don’t want. Or so somebody told me. Even slightly over-doing it, over time, can make you fat and lazy. Wine does contain sugar, after all, and sugar’s just not all that great for your body.

So many companies are putting out resveratrol supplements, and if you haven’t added such a supplement to your daily health regimen, you should. Is it the very best medicine for anti-aging? No, highly-expensive clinical gene therapy is probably better. But for the average person, resveratrol is the best “available” medicine to help your body fight the clock.

When choosing a resveratrol supplement, there are a few things you need to look for. First, don’t just cheap out. The quality, potency, and safety of resveratrol supplements varies greatly, and you don’t want to get what’s cheap if it isn’t good. You want to make sure the product you buy is safe: the nutrient should be high-quality, harvested from a location where they care about things like purity and human rights, tested to be free of agricultural chemicals, and manufactured in a safe (inspected) facility. And if you can, get an activated liquid product for optimal delivery of the nutrient to your cells (resveratrol is only moderately absorbed from the human gut).

I use just such a resveratrol supplement that mimics the wine I love to drink (but shouldn’t drink as much of as I sometimes have!). It even comes in a wine bottle, and I can mix just a little bit of it with water to make a glass of “fake wine” that’s REALLY good for me. I’ve been focusing on using it daily for a few days now, and I can really feel the difference in my energy level. And Friend Wife even told me this weekend that my face looks… younger!

I recommend resveratrol, taken in the right concentration with a healthy dose of the other thing that fights aging: optimism. Sure, the world is trying to make you old quickly these days, and you have to contend with everything from taking care of your business in your day job to dealing with the effects of a crumbling global economy. And do you really want to rely on government health care? But things will get better. For one thing, after a regimen of anti-oxidants such as resveratrol, you’ll be “younger” next month! You’ll have more energy to do battle with the challenges in your life. In short, your life improves as YOU take personal responsibility to improve yourself. And a strong commitment to daily health habits, such as consistent use of the miracle of resveratrol, will literally make you better every day.

Cost Effective Medicine Formulations To Cure Infectious Diseases

Malaria is a serious disease that’s caused by a parasite known as Plasmodium and it spread through the bite of an infected female mosquito. The parasite travels to the liver via the blood and then out into the bloodstream again, where it invades the red blood cells. There are four different types of malaria parasite: Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale and Plasmodium malaria. The classical Malaria symptoms are fever and shivering. Malaria attack starts with fever, and temperature rising as high as 40C and falling again over a period of several hours.

Other Malaria Symptoms may include fatigue, nausea, severe headache, and vomiting. Malaria symptoms usually appear between 10 and 15 days after the mosquito bite. The malaria treatment is very complicated because different types of malaria require different types of drugs. Malaria treatment comes in the form of antimalarial drugs and depends upon the sternness of disease. Alaxin plus Tablets, Lonart Suppository and P-Alaxin Tablets are some medicines for malaria. Symptoms of malaria are fast controlled by Dihydroartemisinin, which is powerful plasmodicide of malaria parasite agamete.

There is no any mutuation effects experienced of it. It is widely distributed in the liver, kidneys and bile. For inhibit the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, Pyrimethamine and sulfadoxine take steps in sequence in the bacterial path way of folic acid synthesis. That converts dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate. Alaxin Plus Tablets contains Sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine which do not affect mammalian cells while these mammalian cells are unable to synthesize folic acid themselves and require intact folic acid. Each Lonart Suppository contains Artemether 20 mg and Lumefantrine 120 mg. Excipients q.s. Artemether is the most active derivate of the Artemisinines, a new class of antimalarial drugs derived from Artemisinin. The latter compound is extracted from the plant Artemisia Annua and Artemether is prepared semi-synthetically. Lumefantrine is a synthetic aryl amino alcohol similar to mefloquine and halo-fantrine.

Lonart Suppository is used to treatment of malaria, which is caused by all forms of Plasmodium including severe malaria caused by multiple drug resistant strains of P. Falciparum. Each coated tablet of P-Alaxin Tablets contains Dihydroartemisinin 40 mg, Piperaquine Phosphate 320 mg, Excipients: q.s. It is used when P. falciparum, P, Vivax and P. malariae attack. This medicine is not suggested for use in women during the first 3 months of pregnancy. These tablets should keep in dry and cold places.
